Abstract | Recent studies have demonstrated that remote sensing techniques are effective tools in the study of agricultural crops characteristics. Through the interpretation of satellite images is possible to identify and monitor large areas of agricultural fields. However, the diversity in land use and dynamics of agricultural targets can bring difficulties for the correct identification of these characteristics and make necessary better knowledge of the behavior of these spectral targets. This study aims to mapping and estimate soybean crop for a Landsat image (orbit/point 227/68 ) area in two different years (1996 and 2003) using digital classification and visual interpretation . The soybean crop map was carried out through digital and visual classification. At first, a segmentation and classification using the ISOSEG classifier provided a thematic map with 70 to 80% of acceptance, and after, a matrix editing was performed to validate the polygonal boundaries. The images classified showed a large increase in soybean planted area between the period of 15/12/1996 and 19/12/2003. Furthermore, in the first period mentioned above, the area occupied with soybean crop was of 86.672,76 ha and for the second period the area occupied with soybean crop was of 206.742,96 ha. This indicates an increase of 120.070,2 ha, or about 238,53%, in the soybean planted area. This study was efficient in the monitoring of agricultural crops. |
